Armagh

In Northern Ireland, for the last set of published figures (2017-2018) 984 opioid users were in contact with services that prescribe opioid substitute medication. 44 patients, on release from prison, engaged in treatment. Sadly, 12 adults had drug and alcohol dependency recorded as their cause of death.

The figures also show that 361 persons had been in treatment for more than five years and there was an increase in clients on opioid substitution over four years (2014-2018) Twice as many men, as women, were receiving treatment during this period.

In relation to alcohol, the last comprehensive survey was back in 2013 showed that there was a clear variance in binge drinking patterns across N.Ireland with some areas having more than double the number than others.

For fee-paying/private clients there are no private centers in Northern Ireland. While this is a massive inconvenience, it is a fact that many clients find difficult to fathom or understand. All the clinic chains and referral agencies will tell you that there are: This simply is not the case. Treatment in the South of Ireland is exorbitantly expensive compared to mainland UK. While there are no centers in the North, there are a large number of centers, on the mainland, that are very easy to access from N.Ireland: Some are low cost.

Call and speak to Paul. He is an addictions clinician with three decades of clinical experience in the field. This is a free service that is entirely confidential, impartial, and available seven days a week.
