Carlisle

Carlile experiences the same difficulties with drug and alcohol dependency as other areas of the United Kingdom, except that the fatality rate is nearly double that of the rest of the UK.  In 2021, figures released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) stated that the fatality rate was almost triple the national average.

Within Cumbria, this has been put down to an emerging trend of reliance on gabapentinoids and benzodiazepines. Like other areas of the UK, there are pockets of significant deprivation in Carlile and the ages of those dependent on drugs and alcohol in the area are increasing.

Anyone wishing to use the service can self-refer and they will be welcomed by a lived experience volunteer. These are people in recovery (and have gone through treatment and are now abstinent). They will guide the client through the service and how to access services.

For fee-paying clients, residential treatment in Carlile can be achieved at considerably lower costs than in other parts of the UK.  Outpatient services are also available. Call Paul to discuss.
