While there are no recent figures published for Hereford in relation to drug and alcohol use, the last set of published figures from 2016-2017 point towards a lower average than the rest of England with 6.3% of adults in the county experiencing dependency on heroin and/or crack (719 adults) which is lower than the average for England at .9% (per 1000 adults).  This was also reflected in the higher than average figures for treatment completion within the county, during the same period, which stood at 8.1% , whereas the average for England, during that time, was 6.5%.  However, for adults in treatment for non-opioid related drug dependency, the completion rate was significantly lower than the average for England (36.9%) at 27.8%. 

Figures for drug related deaths n the county were last recorded for the period 2016-2018 and stood at 19. This is a mortality rate of 3.6 per 100,000 which was lower than that for England which ,on average for that period, stood at 4.5 per 100,000. 

With regards to alcohol, there is very scant information published though alcohol related hospital admissions continue to rise. During 2019-2020 there were 900 across the county. in 2022, there 18 deaths recorded by the coroner as being due to alcohol and drugs.
