Nottingham

Figures from Nottinghamshire Council indicate that 63% of those who use heroin and crack in the county are between the ages of 35-64. This cohort accounts for 81% of all adults, in the county, who are accessing statutory services for drug and alcohol treatment.  While it is encouraging that such a high number are engaging in treatment, the same can not be said for those aged 16-19 and 20-24. Only 8% of these two age groups are engaging in treatment in Nottingham. For people of color, the figures are even lower.

With regards to those dependent on alcohol, only, Nottinghamshire council estimates that 74% are not in treatment. This translates at 3,800 adults who are dependent drinkers and not seeking help. Sadly, the number of adults dying in the county from drug use is, currently, at its highest for over three decades. In 2021, alone, across the county, there were over one hundred deaths from drug and alcohol dependency. This was a rise of 28 from 2020 when the figure was 72. Of this figure of 100, 39 were due to drugs: alone. This was up 9 from the year before.
